The trick here is that interest rates between US and UK are always at different levels, sometimes it might be more worthwhile to request a loan from the a US based lender while sometimes it might be more worthwhile to request a loan from a UK based lender depending on which side has the lower interest rates.

This practice is long been done but very few people actually know about it since it has been restricted to larger financial institutions. Some lender will however accept this arrangement if requested due to the stiff competition in the market.
